Changsha Hua Center Phase II: A Testament to Nature-Inspired Design

Aedas' Award-Winning Architecture Reflects the Spirit of Hunan

In the heart of Changsha, a new architectural marvel stands tall, embodying the spirit of the Hunan province. The Changsha Hua Center Phase II, a project by Aedas, is a testament to nature-inspired design, drawing its concept from the iconic "Mountain of Zhangjia Jie".

The Hua Center Phase II is part of Huayuan Group's "Hua Center" in Changsha. The project is strategically located at the intersection of Jiefang West Road, Taiping Street, and Pozijie Street, close to the Xiang River that runs through the city. The design concept, inspired by the world heritage site of Zhangjiajie, reflects Hunan's unique natural style, aligning with the city's "landscape city" features.

The design of the Hua Center Phase II is unique in its representation of the city's cultural and natural elements. The landscape of Zhangjiajie, which symbolizes the spiritual power driving the city's development and the energetic nature of the Hunan people, is beautifully encapsulated in the project's design. The project serves as a physical embodiment of the city's restless DNA - independent, energetic, and interactive.

The project's realization was facilitated by the use of Revit software in the early stages of construction. The software ensured the efficient consolidation of structure, electromechanical, HVAC equipment, and curtain wall drawings. Any changes or adjustments during the construction process were immediately simulated by the software, ensuring a high-efficiency construction process.

The Hua Center Phase II project contains office and retail spaces. The design team, led by Dr. Andy Wen and Project Architect Zihuan Lin, responded to market research revealing a downward trend in rent due to the abundance of traditional offices around the site. The team proposed shared office and small boutique offices, which are more popular in the market, instead of traditional offices.

The project faced challenges due to its location, surrounded by Grand Hyatt hotels, Super Class 5A office buildings, Hisense international famous boutiques, restaurants, high-end residential, and small apartment apartments. The design team addressed this by supplementing the region with small offices, shared offices, and art-themed commercial retail, expanding the user range from the rich to the middle class and young people, thus improving the inclusiveness of the community.

The Changsha Hua Center Phase II project, which started in December 2014, was completed and opened to the public in January 2020. The project was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building, and Structure Design Award in 2020, a testament to its remarkable design and innovation. With its unique design and cultural significance, the Hua Center Phase II is set to become a landmark in Changsha, reflecting the city's spirit and energy.
